LAWRENCE (Dial, Kompakt records ,DE)
As Lawrence, Kersten has released three deep and melacholic longplayers. First turned onto techno by the original wave of acid house, by 1997 Kersten began producing his own music. However, Lawrence is the project which has been catching the most attention. The first eponymous ‘Lawrence’ album (Ladomat, 2002) was a mixture of house, minimal techno and experimental pieces, while the second one, ‘The Absence of Blight’ (Dial, 2003) had a straighter touch. Latest album is the ‘The Night Will Last Forever’ (Novamute, 2005). “The different projects stand somehow close to another,” he says. “Sten is the more minimal and straight part of me, strictly influenced by the part of my life on the dancefloor.”
CHRISTIAN LÖFFLER (Juno, Ki records, DE)
Due to the fact that Loeffler is also working as a visual artist, he’s following the same approach when making music that he’s following when painting or taking photos. It is more about telling a story than making everything accessible right from the start. In the course of the production of EP’s like “Heights”, “Raise” and “Aspen”, Loeffler developed some strategies to use acoustic material and singing in his music. Amongst others he samples different stringed instruments, percussion and atmospheres. He continues working with the recordings on the computer, combining, layering and alternating them.
The extraordinary capacities of this young producer have kept eyes and ears closely following the fresh talent as Löffler’s deep moving melancholic sound, is absolutely irresistible.
